Follow these simple steps to learn how to measure a lampshade
If you have a lampshade you want to replace with another of a similar size, these are the measurements you’ll need to make. A tape measure, paper and pen are all you need for this easy task. Let’s get stuck in and learn how to measure a lampshade.
You may find it easier to measure the lampshade once taken off its base, if that feels too fiddly though, you’ll still manage to get your measurements with the lampshade attached.
If you’re replacing an existing shade and can’t find one with the exact same measurements, the height is the most important to replicate.
To measure a lampshade you’ll need the following measurements
A – Top diameter. (Hold the tape across the centre of the top opening from edge to opposite edge. If the lampshade is square, measure one side of the top square).
B – Bottom diameter. (Hold the tape across the centre of the bottom opening from edge to opposite edge. If the lampshade is square, measure one side of the base square).
C – Vertical slant. (Only where your shade has a vertical slant).
D – Vertical height.
Tip: When buying a lampshade the size of the shade refers to the base diameter.
