Lampshades can be everything from big and bold to small and subtle. They can be the eye catching focus of a room or a small detail that brings warmth or a twinkle of light to an indoor or outdoor space.
With the height of summer upon us we’ve spotted three of our Professional Lampshade Makers embracing outdoor lighting with simple, but transformative twists on our Lantern Making Kits, so we thought why not share them with you?
Eastern Glow
Lauren of @juniper_and_spice, felt something was missing from her lanterns, when she stocked them last year, but taking inspiration taken from fellow Instagramers, she’s transformed them into something so much more, by adding stylish macrame hangers!
Perfect for adding a touch of the exotic to your outdoor space, @juniper_and_spice uses stunning signature vintage sari silks, which are responsibly sourced from India and often one of a kind, to make her opulent hanging lanterns. Each silk is used, in the first instance, to make lampshades and by using the unused pieces of silk for her handmade hanging lanterns, she’s also made her operation even more sustainable!
Each hanging lantern is supplied with a tea light, available in different lengths and you can choose your silk from her range. Contact Lauren via her website – juniperandspice.com
Something New
Seasoned Lampshade maker, Sharon of @made_in_marshfield, has taken her creative talents a step further to celebrate one of the most important dates in the summer calendar – a wedding!
Playing with fabric, ribbons and laces Sharon has been trialing her new range of lanterns, that can be used in number of ways on the special day.
‘I’m thinking they could be used to add light along your aisle and then popped on tables at your reception or scattered around your outside space to add a special glow - you could even give them to those that have made your day special as a “thank you” at the end of the day – win, win!!’
And the creativity doesn’t stop there. Sharon is more than happy to create bespoke lanterns that fit in seamlessly with a wedding theme. Whether it’s boho, vintage, classic or modern, Sharon’s skills and creativity could add the perfect finishing touch to your celebration.

Back to Nature
Showing off her passion for the outdoors, Bridget Arnold of @bridget9696 uses the creative art of sun print to transfer beautiful images of wild flowers picked from the hedgerows of Dartmoor for her lampshades.
On a smaller scale, her lantern range features this stunning effect including delicate prints of grasses, feather, ferns and cow parsley, which pop out from the greens and blues of the fabric.
If you have a small garden or balcony, we think Bridget's lanterns would be a great way to add your own little slice of nature and when night falls, they look very pretty when lit.
Find Bridget's lanterns at www.bridgetarnold.co.uk and read more about her as an artist and her creative process in our Meet the Maker interview.
