#Memadeshade February Winner

We're super excited about how our #memadeshade Instagram competition has captured your imaginations throughout February and we've loved seeing every one of the fantastic shades you've made and entered.

But there can only be one winner and this month Louise of @sewingdaze has won our whopping 70 cm shade kit!

Keen to find out more about Louise and her shade making adventures we were lucky enough to have a chat with our very first #memadeshade winner...

Congratulations! You’re our February #memadeshadewinner

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and the crafting that you do?

I’ve been crafting since I was 7 and absolutely love having an outlet to relax and have a bit of self care. It’s so important.

Over the last 20+ years, I’ve tried my hand at cross stitch, card making, sewing, knitting and my current favourite, crochet.

I’ve been owner/manager/sales/bookkeeper/marketing/purchasing/tutor at Sewing Daze since June 2017 and I’ve loved (almost) every second.

Are you a newbie lampshade maker or have you made up a Needcraft Lampshade making kit before? I have made a few lampshades before as they are just so straight forward to do. I saw a demo a year or so ago and it looked so easy. We now run lampshade making as a workshop in the shop and it's very popular as there is no sewing skill needed. Anyone can do it. What do you love about the shade you entered for the #memadeshade competition? I’d been looking for a lampshade for my living room for absolutely ages and couldn’t find anything that worked. I decided to make one as it was the best way of getting what I want. The fabric I picked worked perfectly in the space and the size of the lampshade was just right. What’s do you like most about the Needcraft lampshade making kits? I like that the kits don’t take any previous knowledge of crafting and that by having everything stick to itself, there is absolutely no mess.

Any plans to make more lampshades?

I will definitely be making more lampshades! My craft room needs a bit of a makeover so it’s the perfect excuse to make another.

You find Louise and her shop Sewing Daze on Instagram - @itslouisedrake and @sewingdaze - and if you're ever in Ely, Cambridgeshire be sure to check out her bricks and motar shop, that's packed with creative goodies!
