#memadeshade September winner

Updated: Oct 11, 2023

As the months fly by we're already in September and our #memadeshade Instagram competition has been flooded with entries, yet again. As always we're excited to see how you've made our lampshade making kits your own with your choices of fabrics and wallpapers and of course, plenty of imagination. This month's winner took our breath away with the stunning use of a dark, leafy wallpaper, combined with our double-sided Stick It PVC, that gives it a real wow factor. Made by the talented Eva of @lafabricar, her clever use of a plain outer fabric makes the interior the main showcase and her use of a canopy of trees for her photograph makes it better still!

Huge congratulations to Eva, who will shortly be receiving our monthly prize of a £100 voucher to be spent at Dannells. Intrigued to delve into the world of @lafabricar, we meet Eva and learn more...

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and the creative things that you do? My name is Eva Guadarrama and live in Tenerife, Canary Islands. For 17 years I have dedicated myself to the world of restoring antique furniture and other decorative arts.

Among all those pieces that I restore, the lamps stand out, so in my workshop there have always been many old lamps and lampshades.  Although I have been familiar with this for a long time, I have never created new shades and at the end of last year that I started looking for information on this subject. A few months ago I began to manufacture my first shades and... I am absolutely hooked and in love with this work. This helps me to develop my creative side, since in my commissions as a restorer I have to be very respectful of the original image of the pieces that I manipulate and there is very little margin for imagination.

Are you a newbie lampshade maker or have you made up a Needcraft Lampshade making kit before? Last April I put in my first order with Dannells and with it I made my first shades.  Since then I have not stopped! The shade you have awarded this month is one of my latest creations.

What do you love about the shade you entered for the #memadeshade competition? I love experimenting with different combinations of shapes and colors.  When I saw the outcome of this shade I was fascinated with it ... I also really enjoy finding environments that highlight the singularities of each shade that I make.  In this case, I think that the vegetation chosen as the background for the photography has achieved this effect.

What’s do you like most about the Needcraft lampshade making kits? I love the convenience and ease of having all your work organized.  Being able to find all the materials you need to make a shade in one place and the convenience of ordering them online, with time to think and organize your order.  This way you can focus your effort on the creative process.  I feel so fortunate to have found Dannells.

Any plans to make more lampshades?  Of course, my idea is to continue creating shades within La Fábrica R, my creative project. I already have a section on my main website (www.restaurata.es) in which I showcase models that are for sale. You may also find me in Instagram (@lafabricar) where you can see all my current creations. My goal is to develop a very personal line of lampshades and be able to collaborate on different decoration projects.

September's most liked shades

Prints seem to have dominated September's shademaking, with a feast of fabrics featuring birds and ornate floral repeat patterns in rich, autumn colours (@jenthepiecemaker, @floral_vintage_home, @cotooee, @heaton_mess and @delve_indesign). In complete contrast, @alisonbickdesigns, our August #memadeshade winner features again with a bright bold print in sunny yellow.

Both adding something a little different is @molly.and.lola, who's pom poms add a touch of fun and we love the contemporary craft vibe of the @silversoles.felted.textiles shade, which takes texture to the next level.
